Pick Eight

The Block Draws

The points come from the football. When a prize has to go to one of several players, a Bitcoin block whose number was fixed in advance decides it. The entries, the block and the sum are on this page, so anyone can check every result.

The draws

The list appears when the page has loaded.

How a draw works

When a card is created, a Bitcoin block number about a week ahead is written down with it, and the chain's height at that moment. Nobody knows what that block's hash will be.
When the results are in, the entries are listed in a fixed order, sorted by the number each player got when they first signed in: every perfect card for the weekly draw (the players with the most right when nobody is perfect), and every other full card for the lucky loser draw.
Once the block exists, its hash is hashed again with the draw's name and number (SHA-256), read as a number and divided by the number of entries. The remainder is the winning entry, counted from zero.
The block hash is public on every Bitcoin explorer, the formula is on this page, and the button under each draw runs the same sum in your own browser.

The monthly draw

Every perfect card of a month is one entry in that month's draw, drawn from its own block fixed with the first card of the month. A player with two perfect cards has two entries.
