XRP Ledger developers propose fixes for restricted token holder rules

Developers bundled four code changes into one upgrade called fixCleanup3_5_0 to stop tokens that only approved accounts may hold from reaching accounts that were never approved. One change would require issuer approval for both tokens of an AMM pool before an account can join it. The changes still have to be merged, and the upgrade then needs more than 80% of trusted validators for two weeks before it activates.

The XRP Ledger Foundation says no users were affected, and the fix makes the ledger safer for regulated tokens issued on it.

Ripple freezes 40.5 million RLUSD from the Binance hack

Ripple froze 40.5 million RLUSD at 22:01 UTC on 29 October, covering the hacked Binance hot wallet and the attacker's wallet, and TRM Labs confirmed the freeze on the ledger. The attackers had already sold about 48 million RLUSD before it. The 233.46 million XRP taken in the same attack cannot be frozen, because the XRP Ledger lets token issuers freeze their own tokens but nobody can freeze XRP itself.

It shows the difference between holding RLUSD, which its issuer can freeze, and holding XRP, which no one can freeze.

Binance hack began with 233 million XRP taken from five wallets

Between 20:05 and 20:09 UTC on 29 October, five Binance wallets on the XRP Ledger sent about 233.46 million XRP, worth about $296 million, to one address held by the attacker. It was the first transfer of a theft that blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs put at about $6.36 billion across ten networks. TRM Labs links the attack to a North Korean group; Binance had not published a root cause.

The stolen XRP sits in one known account, and holders may see selling pressure if the attacker moves it.
