Bitcoin climbs back above $80,000 after the US midterm elections
Bitcoin rose about 3.5% to around $80,500 on Wednesday afternoon in New York, after falling to a seven-week low near $75,600 overnight. The midterm elections gave the Democrats control of both chambers of Congress. Shares of Strategy and Coinbase rose about 6%, and about $469 million in leveraged positions were closed out.
The new Congress decides the future of the crypto market structure bill, which sets the rules for exchanges and funds that hold bitcoin.
